What's Happening at The Magic House!

Back-to-School Specials
Fall into a great deal! The Magic House is offering a special autumn discount: $2 admission for every student and accompanying adult on a reserved tour during the months of September and October. Make your reservations early before this good buy blows away!

Please call the Education Department at 314-822-8900 to book a whole lot of hands-on learning at half the price.

So Much More – Right Next Door!
Excitement is building for The Magic House’s expansion! The museum is digging into a major construction project that will double its size and add so much more.  Features of special interest to teachers include a Conservatory to welcome school groups; new galleries with exhibits on a variety of curricular subjects including literacy, art, science, music and health; an Education Center with three flexible classroom spaces; the Star-Spangled Center, a unique learning environment with a courtroom, legislative chamber and Oval Office to house new exhibits and educational programs on citizenship; and additional free parking, restrooms and other amenities to ensure that every school tour is a magical experience. The current facility will remain completely operational during the 2008-2009 school year, and the new Magic House will open in late 2008.

Civic Education Programs
In 2008, The Magic House will open the Star-Spangled Center, a national showcase for exhibits and programs on American history and governance.  With the generous support of the Deer Creek Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the museum is developing a series of educational programs for this unique learning environment.  Majority Rules! for students in 1st through 3rd grades illustrates how American government is a democracy in which all citizens determine laws through the voting process, and Balancing Act for 4th through 6th grade students that addresses how the three separate branches of government maintain a balance of power. New in 2007, Oh Say Can You See? for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade conveys the meaning and importance of major American symbols in a team relay game format.  Cast your vote for these all-American programs.

A Math-magical Workshop for Teachers
It all adds up to fun with this new workshop for teachers of preschool through 3rd grade! Magic House museum educators share teaching strategies and hands-on activities that can be integrated into the curriculum. These activities demonstrate early learning standards for math in both Missouri and Illinois. Topics include number recognition, measurement, estimation, geometry, reasoning and more.  This workshop makes early math instruction as simple as 1-2-3!

Star Society Scholarships—Free Programs
Everybody can be a star at The Magic House!  The museum’s Star Society annual fund provides educational experiences at no cost for disadvantaged students.  To see if your class qualifies for a free school tour or outreach program, please call the Education Department at 314-822-8900.  Please call early, since there are a limited number of scholarships availabl
