Storytime Magic
Storytime Magic

Parents and their young children are invited to Storytime Magic, an interactive literacy experience! Storytime Magic takes place Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11:30 am during the school year, in Classroom #1 on the Lower Level. A different book is featured each month. Dates and times are subject to change.

September – October
The Magic House Mice and the Pumpkin Surprise

by Mary Ebers
This heartwarming autumn tale featuring the museum’s favorite group of mice teaches children how even the smallest of creatures can accomplish great things. Pumpkin science activities will follow the story, inviting children to conduct an investigation of the big orange squash.

November
Move! by Robin Page
Creatures slither, leap and waddle in this playful introduction to motion in the animal kingdom.  Vivid collage illustrations and bold action words encourage young readers to explore the unusual ways that animals get around.  An engaging action game will come after the story, welcoming children to exercise and participate in creative movement.

December
Holiday Magic
The museum will be decorated for the holiday season as Mrs. Claus tells the delightful tale of a group of mice who live in The Magic House and learn about the true spirit of giving.

January
Winter Is the Warmest Season by Lauren Stringer
From steaming cocoa to puffy parkas, this book shows how the chilliest season turns toasty. A beautiful visual narrative with inviting scenes, poetic text and gorgeous illustrations celebrates all the wonderful things that make winter the coziest time of the year. A hands-on exploration of the seasons will follow the story.

February
What Do Wheels Do All Day?  by April Jones Prince
This vibrant book combines simple text with brilliant cut-paper relief illustrations of vehicles, from buses to wheelchairs, and from bikes to Ferris wheels.  This story masterfully captures all kids' fascination with things that go.  An activity inviting young ones down a road of discovery will complete the visit.

March
Five for a Little One by Chris Raschka
An endearing bunny with mismatched ears introduces readers to the five senses.  Lively verse and bold artwork convey children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for all the ways in which they interpret the world around them.  A sensory experience exploring a young child's world will culminate the visit.

April
Butterfly, Butterfly: A Book of Colors by Petr Horacek
A bright green beetle, a radiant red ladybug and a multitude of other creatures inhabit a colorful backyard garden. Young children will delight in the simple shapes, vivid hues and peek-a-boo views that this story offers.  Following the story, children will practice discrimination skills as they sort a rainbow of objects.

The Bunnies’ Picnic by Lezlie Evans
Adorable illustrations and a bouncy rhyming text follow a family of eight bunnies as they pick and prepare fresh ingredients for a mouthwatering vegetable stew. When their meal plans go awry, the bunnies rebound in this cheerful romp that reinforces number skills. After the story, a fun counting game will have young chefs creating their own delicious recipes.
