Storytime Magic

Parents and their young children are invited to Storytime Magic, an interactive literacy experience! Storytime Magic takes place Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11:30 am during the school year, in Classroom #1 on the Lower Level. A different book is featured each month. Dates and times are subject to change.

The Magic House Mice and the Pumpkin Surprise
by Mary Ebers
This heartwarming autumn tale featuring the museum’s favorite group of mice teaches children how even the smallest of creatures can accomplish great things. Pumpkin science activities will follow the story, inviting children to conduct an investigation of the big orange squash.

The Busy Little Squirrel by Nancy Tafuri
Beautiful ink-and-watercolor pictures show squirrel's flurry of activity, as he collects berries and nuts preparing his nest for winter. After enjoying this lovely story of autumn, children will participate in an activity creating a warm snug bed for their new bushy tailed friend.

Holiday Magic
The museum will be decorated for the holiday season as Mrs. Claus tells the delightful tale of a group of mice who live in The Magic House and learn about the true spirit of giving.

An Orange in January by Dianna Hutts Aston
Eye-catching illustrations celebrate one of winter’s greatest pleasures – a plump, juicy orange! Simple prose draws youngsters in as they follow the life of a single orange, from its start as a blossom in the orchard, to its ultimate destination – the hands of a child in winter. An activity exploring other “winter” pleasures will complete the visit.

What goes together perfectly? Children and this cheerful picture book about all kinds of things that belong with each other! Sunshine-bright, joyful art and rhyming text invites young ones to “make the connection” between familiar pairings. A fun “match-making” game will conclude the program.

Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia
Colorful construction vehicles call young workers to discover the actions that get the job done! From the crane that lifts, lifts, lifts to the bulldozer that push-push-pushes children will explore the equipment used by the hard hat family of our community. An action game inviting kids to participate in “constructive movement” will have everyone “digging” this activity!

First the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
Vibrant die-cuts reveal surprises with each turn of the page delighting children in this clever exploration of the “first/then” concept. A celebration of the wonders of spring will complete the program.

Up, Down, and Around by Katherine Ayres
From seeds dropped into the soil to corn bursting from its stalks, everything in this garden is on the move! This pleasant introduction to planting and prepositions helps children learn that some vegetables grow underground, some shoot up above it, and some grow on vines that twine around and around. An exploration of garden discovery will have all young participants going home with green thumbs. |
