Field Trip Programs

MADE for Kids features 7,000-square-feet of interactive space including four areas: a Makers Workshop, an Artists Studio, a Designers Lab and an Entrepreneurs Marketplace. Students will have the opportunity to engage in real-world, hands-on STEAM experiences they can’t participate in elsewhere, from designing for a 3D printer to learning simple robotics.

Reservations required, scholarships available.

MADE for Kids Design Challenge

Grade: Kindergarten – Grade 8
Cost: $6.00 per student and chaperone. Teachers are free. 
Capacity: Maximum 75 students. One adult chaperone is required for every five children with a maximum of 15 adult chaperones. Teachers are not included in the chaperone count.

Description: Schedule your visit to The Magic House’s satellite location in the City of St. Louis, MADE for Kids! Students are invited to explore this STEAM-infused makerspace, featuring 7,000-square-feet of interactive learning experiences including four areas: a Makers’ Workshop, an Artists’ Studio, a Designers’ Lab, and an Entrepreneurs’ Marketplace. Following private exploration of MADE for Kids, students will sharpen their problem-solving skills and engage their creativity as they participate in a grade-level specific design challenge, created to align with Missouri GLEs.

Kindergarten Straw Rockets: Create and launch a rocket that can shoot over a wall.
Grade 1 Turn Up the Volume: Design and build a device that makes sound in two different ways.
Grade 2 Roll With It: Design and build a device that can move a car 6 inches without touching it.
Grade 3 Tower of Strength: Build a skyscraper using a variety of non-traditional building supplies strong enough to withstand the wind.
Grade 4 No Wire Circuit: Create a circuit using a variety of household objects, anything but wire, to light an LED bulb.
Grade 5 Hole in One: Build a machine that can hit a ball into a stationary cup.
Grade 6 – Grade 8: Design challenges available upon request. 

How can I receive free admission for our school group?

The Magic House, MADE for Kids provides free field trip programs to Title 1 schools, as well as schools that serve 50 percent or more of students that qualify for free and reduced lunch. If your organization qualifies, please select “Scholarship Funded” when making your reservation here.

How many chaperones are required for a field trip?

One adult chaperone is required for every five children.

Where can buses drop-off and pick-up my group?

Buses may pull to the front of the building for drop-off and pick-up, a staff member will provide direction upon arrival when arriving for a reserved field trip program. Buses will not have access to our parking lot, street parking is available.

May my group explore the makerspace after their reserved field trip program?

Groups with at least one adult chaperone for every five children may explore The Magic House, MADE for Kids after their field trip until 12:00 p.m. Please note that your group will also have time during their scheduled field trip for free exploration of The Magic House, MADE for Kids.

What suggestions can you share regarding planning for lunch?

Teachers and group leaders are advised to enjoy lunch at an offsite location. The Magic House, MADE for Kids does not have any outdoor picnic areas and outside food is not allowed in the makerspace. Groups bringing lunches should store them on their buses or in their cars.

May memberships, passes or coupons be used toward admission for a field trip?

Memberships, passes and coupons are for public hour use only and cannot be used during a reserved field trip program.
