How to Plan the Perfect Holiday Family Day at The Magic House

December 12, 2025

Santa's sleigh, family photo, trees, Santa mailbox

You know that moment in December when your kids are bouncing off the walls, you’re juggling a holiday to-do list the length of the Mississippi, and everyone just needs something magical to reset the mood? That’s exactly why a holiday visit to The Magic House is at the top of our family bucket list every year.

If you’re planning your first visit, or you’re a seasoned Magic House parent, here’s everything you need to make your day easy, festive, and full of memory-making moments.

When to Go

Toddlers – Mornings are your best friend. Little ones are fresh, crowds are lighter, and you’ll get first dibs on the Ice Castle slide before nap-time restlessness kicks in.

School-age kids – Afternoons are perfect once the toddler crowd heads home. There’s a 3 p.m. science demonstration that’s always a hit, and if your kids love a challenge, send them on the Hero Quest Scavenger Hunt for a little extra adventure.

Bonus for everyone – The Magic House has extended holiday hours from December 19–January 4, which is a total lifesaver during winter break. More time to explore, play, and burn off all that holiday energy!

Must-Do Holiday Fun

If you haven’t been before, Holiday Magic is packed with activities that feel straight out of your favorite holiday movie.

Winter Wonderscape: Ice Castle climbing, a zip slide, Santa’s Sleigh photo spot, this is where the energy burns off.

Elves Workshop: If your child loves crafts, prepare to take home a whole sleigh’s worth, jingle bell bracelets, cards, and of course, the all-important letter to Santa.

Story Time with Santa & Mrs. Claus: Cozy, sweet, and includes adorable crafts like snowman puppets. A must-do if you have little ones.

Lunch Without Leaving the Magic

The café transforms into a Gingerbread Café, adorable, convenient, and full of warm, kid-friendly food. What to see all that Kirkwood has to offer, head to Downtown Kirkwood just blocks away with tons of kid-friendly restaurants!

Parking (Good News!)

There’s free parking right onsite.

Parent Tip: Don’t Rush It

Between the holiday add-ons and all the regular exhibits, you’ll want at least 2–3 hours and honestly, it’s easy to spend the whole day if your kids are in full play mode.

If you’re looking for family holiday activities in St. Louis or just need something fun and warm to do with your kids, make a holiday visit to The Magic House part of your season.
