The Magic House and The Muny Announce Partnership

ST LOUIS (May 10, 2024) – The Magic House, St. Louis’ beloved children’s museum, and The Muny, the nation’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theater, are excited to announce an innovative collaboration set to inspire young theater enthusiasts.

Since 1919, The Muny has produced Broadway-caliber shows, sparking the imaginations of hundreds of thousands of children and adults each summer. Now, The Muny is extending its reach beyond the stage to help inspire budding directors, actors, and designers through Story Time Theater at The Magic House.

Story Time Theater is part of Story Time Magic, a new exhibit at The Magic House, that invites children to take center stage and bring their stories to life. With digitally animated backdrops, the stage can transform into an underwater scene, cityscape, castle, outdoor settings and more! Children can select sound effects and special lighting, creating a one-of-a-kind performance for their families and friends.

Story Time Theater draws inspiration from The Muny, incorporating elements that pay homage to the iconic outdoor theater. From digitally animated backdrops, to displays of costumes, props and posters from family productions over the years, this interactive space transports children into the creative world of live theater.

“For 106 years, young people from all walks of life have had their first experience with live theater at The Muny, and that’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly,” said Muny President & CEO Kwofe Coleman. “We’re thrilled to partner with The Magic House to create this interactive space where children can explore their creativity and discover the magic and possibilities of the stage.”

Story Time Theater at The Magic House is set to open its curtains to the public on May 24.
